Situated on the Pacific coast just an hour and a half’s drive from the capitol of San Jose, Los Suenos provides the perfect location for anglers wishing to explore Costa Rica’s world-class fishing grounds.
Unusually calm waters and short rides to the fishing grounds cements Los Suenos at the top of the big-game fishing experience. Long known as one of the world’s premier big-game destinations, Los Suenos offers traveling anglers the opportunity to match skills with three heavyweights — blue, black and striped marlin — as well as enormous numbers of big Pacific sailfish. This makes Costa Rica one of the few places in the world where anglers get a real shot at the elusive “grand slam” — catching and releasing three different species of billfish in a single day.
Although the fishing offshore might be hard to top, once you step off the dock Los Suenos goes out of its way to dazzle you with an incredible array of onshore activities as well. Sparkling pools, tennis courts, golf courses, a full-service training center and spa let you choose between a vigorous workout and a relaxing drink by the pool.
For the non-fishing guest, imagine yourself soaring above tree tops on a zip-line, surfing the perfect wave, rushing through the rainforest on an ATV, white water rafting on a powerful river or exploring the jungle. There’s plenty to explore in Costa Rica!

We’re going back to this Guatemalan fishing destination to take advantage of the area’s huge number of billfish. With numbers like 124 releases in a single day by one boat, 300 releases in three days on conventional tackle, 57 in a single day fly-fishing and an overall annual release rate of a dozen billfish per day per boat, it's clear that Guatemala's Pacific coast is the perfect place to learn the intricacies of the bait-and-switch.
At Casa Vieja Lodge, they take exceptional pride in assuring you world-class vessels, run by highly respected captains with day-end returns, and the highest-quality accommodations imaginable. The lodge is located less than a mile from the entrance of Marina Pez Vela. After a day on the water, you can be back in the Casa Vieja's pool in five minutes. If calm waters and multiple shots at marlin and sailfish excite you, then the Pacific coast of Guatemala is your paradise.

Both blue and white marlin show up in the clear, blue waters of the Dominican Republic, with whites popping up in the spring and hanging around well into the arrival of the blues in the summer. The DR makes a perfect place for light-tackle world record chasers since large numbers of smaller-sized blue marlin show up in incredible numbers at times. These large numbers of fish make the bait-and-switch method a very effective way to present the line-class you want to the properly sized fish. Pitching a 12-pound outfit to a 300-pound blue marlin is some exciting stuff! We will probably fish mostly 20- and 30-pound tackle, using dead ballyhoo and four teasers, targeting small blue marlin in the 100- to 300-pound range. There might be some white marlin around as well and we won't run away from them! This should be a great place for you to catch a nice blue one while standing up!
The marlin bite was so good last year we had to come back for more!

Five hundred and seventy kilometres off the wild, Atlantic coast of Africa lies the Republic of Cape Verde. When fishermen started exploring the Cape Verde Islands little was known about any of the species available, let alone what game fish were there. It didn’t take long before blue marlin were found to frequent these grounds most of the year round. It was soon discovered there was not just the odd one here and there, but schools of blues of various sizes turned up.
In Cape Verde, it’s not uncommon for the boats to have two dozen bites a day from blues and catch anywhere between six to a dozen or more. There’s no consistency in the sizes of blues. One hook-up might be on a 300-pounder and the next a solid 900 or even a grander. The techniques mostly used are trolling lures on heavy tackle because one never knows what size marlin is going to jump on next!
This class includes 5 days of fishing. This class will fill up fast! If you’re looking for adventure, then Cape Verde is the place to go!

In 1778, Capt. Cook arrived on Hawaii’s Big Island in search of adventure, and he found it. The island features 11 different climate zones, generating everything from lush rainforests to arid deserts and black-sand beaches to snowcapped mountaintops. Everything is big here — 13,779-foot Mauna Kea volcano, Kilauea, the world’s most active volcano, and the 1,000-pound marlin swimming in the coastal waters. After all, the Big Island is Hawaii’s biggest playground.
In 2013, it’s your chance to arrive on Hawaii’s Big Island in search of adventure — fishing for the best billfish in the world. Nowhere else in the world is such successful big-game fishing found in such calm waters. Sea conditions off the Kona coast are typically calm and sunny, and the island’s steep bottom puts big-game fishing just a quarter-mile offshore. Most of Kona’s 1,000-pound marlin have been caught only two to five miles from shore!
Each day, you’ll experience an exhilarating day of marlin fishing, receiving expert instruction from Dave Ferrell, editor of Marlin magazine, and world-renowned angler Capt. Peter B. Wright. By the end of the day, the fish stories will be as big as the island itself.
After a good night’s rest, the sun will rise as you enjoy the rich taste of Kona coffee from the hundreds of coffee plantations that dot the sunny inland slopes. The aroma, which is a direct result of the rich volcanic soil in which the beans grow, will awaken your senses to the paradise that surrounds you. After a day on the water, enjoy the sunset with a cold pint of Kona beer, the local favorite.
Back on the mainland, non-fishing guests will have many choices for recreational activities or a lazy day at the pool or spa. There’s something for everyone in Kona — hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, spelunking, surfing and whale watching. Or you can hang loose along Alii Drive where the vibrant resorts and shopping area all come together.
This class accommodates 16 students and is the perfect class for non-fishing guests. Whether on land or at sea, what a trip it will be!
